Non-Fiction Book Group

The Barbizon: The Hotel That Set Women Free by Paulina Bren

and

The Dollhouse by Fiona Davis

Participants will be reading both the non-fiction book – The Barbizon and comparing that to the fictional book – The Dollhouse

“Poignant and intriguing”, The Barbizon weaves together a tale that has, until now, never been told. It is both a vivid portrait of the lives of these young women looking for something more and a “brilliant many-layered social history of women’s ambition and a rapidly changing New York through the 20th century”.

Enter the lush world of 1950s New York City, where a generation of aspiring models, secretaries, and editors live side by side in the glamorous Barbizon Hotel for Women while attempting to claw their way to fairy-tale success in The Dollhouse, the debut novel of Fiona Davis.
